Avianca on its Fokker 50 fleet

In line with the fleet renovation and modernization plan, Avianca S.A. is in the process of renewing its regional fleet by replacing the Fokker 50 with ATR72-600 aircraft. The Company currently operates a combined turbo prop fleet, consisting of four F-50 and four brand new ATR72.

In spite of the high technical standards and strict preventive maintenance processes the Company has in place, on January 28th, a malfunction on one of the engines of a Fokker 50 covering the Cali-Tumaco route occurred before take-off.

After performing all the proper inspections and going through all the safety procedures, Avianca S.A. has taken the preventive decision to temporarily ground its F-50 fleet.

This preemptive security measure will allow Avianca S.A. and the engine manufacturer Pratt Whitney to establish the causes of the event, and implement the necessary corrective measures that will guaranty the aircraft́s operational reliability.

The abovementioned measure will have a temporary effect on the capacity offered. Capacity expressed in ASKs (Available Seat Kilometers) will be reduced, by 0.30%.

In order to minimize the potential impact for our customers, the company has modified its flight itineraries.

Therefore and dependent on the technical specifications and market requirements, the routes from Bogota to Manizales, Armenia, Pasto, Popayan, Florencia, Yopal, Barrancabermeja, Neiva and Ibagué as well as from Tumaco to Cali, Pasto and Medellín will be served by ATR 72-600 aircraft and / or Airbus A320.

Travelers with bookings to these destinations under the aforementioned itineraries will be accommodated on marked flights on the new schedule.
