AVIANCA S.A. CONFIRMS IT WILL RESUME ITS REGULAR BOGOTA-LONDON-BOGOTA OPERATION

Avianca strengthens its position as the leading Airline in destinations coverage between the Americas and Europe. The UK will be the second country with direct flights from Colombia via Avianca, after Spain.

As part of the development of its plan of consolidation and improving connectivity, and in response to the current social, cultural and market dynamics between Latin America-Europe, Avianca plans to resume the Bogota-London-Bogota route from July 2014.

Announcing this good news for Colombia, South America and the United Kingdom, the CEO of Avianca, Fabio Villegas said: “Today, as in 1946 when the company inaugurated its first flight between Colombia and Europe, Avianca remains true its commitment to offer travelers from the Andean region the best connections and facilities for travel to strategic points. The direct Bogota-London-Bogota flight opens up new opportunities for trade and tourism in markets of great interest to Hispanics and vice versa,” he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Nick Clegg, currently visiting Latin America said: “Relations between Colombia and England are very strong and positive. I am very pleased and happy that Avianca has decided to reopen this direct flight from Bogota to London in July this year. This will help to strengthen the trade ties between the UK and the region even more.”

The preliminary schedule contemplates the regular operation of four weekly flights between the two capitals, leaving the Bogota Eldorado International Airport on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Flights from London Heathrow to Bogota will be on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The transatlantic flights will be served by modern Airbus A-330 aircraft with capacity for 252 passengers. The latest generation aircraft offer 30 seats in Business Class and 222 in Economy Class.

With the launch of this operation, travelers from the UK will see their options to travel within Colombia greatly improved, as well as to the major capitals of Central and South America. For their part, travelers from Latin America will have more options to connect to points beyond London.
