AVIANCA ADDS THE FIRST AIRBUS A321 AIRCRAFT TO ITS FLEET IN COLOMBIA

The Carrier adds the first Airbus A321 aircraft with capacity for 194 passengers to its domestic fleet. In addition to eco-efficient technology the aircraft offers passengers greater comfort and space onboard the aircraft.

Avianca announces the incorporation of the first Airbus A321 aircraft for domestic flights in Colombia. The aircraft is equipped with “Sharklet” wing tip devices, making it the most eco-efficient single-aisle jetliner in its class, with the lowest fuel burn emissions and noise foot print.

The new Airbus A321 has been assigned to service on domestic routes in Colombia including Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena and Medellin.

The aircraft is the Airbus A320 Family’s largest member. It has a stretched fuselage with an overall length of 44.51 meters and an extended operating range of up to 3,000 nautical miles. The interior is notable for the size of its passenger cabin and it boasts more space in the overhead bins for carry-on baggage.

According to the President of Avianca, Fabio Villegas Ramirez: “With the addition of the Airbus A321, Avianca continues to advance in its fleet renewal plan, putting into service the most advanced technology for clients. The advantages this aircraft offers are in terms of performance and interior configuration, allowing us to improve our standards of operation and customer service, while maintaining Avianca at the forefront of technology in the region.”

In addition to its eco-efficient technology, this aircraft, powered by IAE V2533-A5 SelectOne engines (manufactured by IAE International Aero Engines, a global provider of equipment for commercial and military aircraft), has aerodynamic devices manufactured with composite materials to make them lighter and more environmentally friendly. Its 2.4 meters high wings with Sharklet wing tip devices help decrease fuel consumption by up to 4% in additional to the reduction implemented by the previous A320 model, while decreasing CO2 emission by 1,000 tons per aircraft per year.

Added to the advantages of efficiency, operational performance and configuration, the new A321 has a modern individual In-flight entertainment system which includes touch screens and monitors with a USB and Ipod port in Business Class.

Avianca currently operates six A321 aircraft assigned to routes between El Salvador the U.S., Mexico and Costa Rica, as well as from Peru to Brazil.
