FIRST AVIANCA B787 COMMERCIAL FLIGHT

This Friday January 16th at 3:14 p.m., the first Boeing B787-8 of Avianca will depart from the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá en route to New York. The aircraft will carry 236 passengers and 10 crew members.

On board this sophisticated aircraft, passengers of flight AV 244 will enjoy a more comfortable experience having a wider fuselage, more space in between the aisles and seats, and bigger restrooms. They will also have a cleaner, healthier air, more humidity on board and dimmable windows along the different phases of the flight, making it a superior travel experience.

Fabio Villegas Ramirez, CEO of Avianca, said: “We are very pleased to introduce the Boeing 787-8 to our passengers, with its cutting-edge technology and maximum operational performance, making their flights more comfortable and enjoyable”.

The four new Boeing B787-8 aircraft will be operating medium and long haul flights that include New York, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Santiago in Chile, Mexico and as of June serving Madrid, Barcelona and London.

An eco-efficient aircraft

The Boeing B787-8 Dreamliner stands out for its operational efficiency, due to its composite materials in the fuselage and next-generation engines that allow a flight range of more than 14,500 kilometers.

The composite primary structure of the Boeing B787-8 has a significant weight reduction and resistance to corrosion and fatigue. Also, the advanced diagnostics program for the engines and navigation systems improves and makes engineering and maintenance activities easier.

The clean wing design is 9% more efficient than today’s airplanes. It is a high-performance design that results in a faster cruise speed and less fuel consumption. The aerodynamics of the aircraft have more resistance and flexibility allowing a smoother flight, even under moderate turbulence.

Avianca’s Boeing B787-8s are powered by next-generation TRENT 1000 Rolls Royce engines, which consume 20% less fuel reducing 20% of its carbon emissions and 40% of its noise footprint. This makes them the most advanced eco-friendly engines.
