AVIANCA BUILDS A SPECIALIZED AVIATION CENTER

The Avianca Aeronautical Center will function in the area next to the José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, projecting itself as one of the most important complexes for the substantial maintenance and overhaul of aircraft, component repairs and specialist training center in Latin America.

Avianca has started construction of the most modern Aeronautical Center in Latin America, in Rionegro (Antioquia). This is in line with the size of its fleet, which currently comprises 183 last generation aircraft. Avianca will continue to add planes with new technology to the fleet, as well as incorporating the high specialization levels required for their maintenance under the strictest parameters and global quality standards issued by the highest authorities regulating the international airline industry.

According to the CEO of Avianca Holdings, Fabio Villegas Ramírez: “The establishment and development of the Avianca Aeronautical Center, is a decisive step in the consolidation of the Carrier as a source of expertise and a quality reference for the aeronautical engineering processes in the region. Driven by an experienced team of engineers and technicians, the Avianca Maintenance Center is projected to be one of the most complete specialized aviation workshops in Latin America, being both a generator of employment and development for Colombia.”

In a total area of 44,300 square meters, the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) or Avianca Aeronautical Center will have hangars of 8,800 square meters (138 meters wide, 55 meters deep and 19 meters high) where the simultaneous servicing of four single-aisle A320 family, or two wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing B 787-8 or two Airbus A330 will be possible.

The hangars will be complemented with an area of specialized workshops for the repair of components as well as a complete infrastructure that includes a platform for taxiing aircraft, offices, spare parts warehouses and training rooms with capacity for up to 600 employees. The Aeronautical Center will be enabled for both the provision of aircraft maintenance service to repair major components and also as a center for aviation training for the employees of Avianca and other airlines.

With an innovative design, processes with high productivity and efficiency LEAN and an eco-efficient construction system, the Avianca Aeronautical Center incorporates the most advanced systems for rainwater collection, recycling and energy optimization.

The construction of the Avianca Aeronautical Center has the support and endorsement of the governing bodies of national and international civil aviation, such as the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority, the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States, FAA, the European Aviation Safety Agency, EASA and the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO.
