Malaysia Airlines Appoints New Chief Operations Officer

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today officially announced the appointment of Peter Bellew as Chief Operations Officer (COO), effective 1 September 2015.

Peter will join MAS from Ryanair where he has served in roles with increasing responsibility since 2006.

Most recently, he was the Director of Flight Operations for up to 72 bases, operating a total of 320 aircraft. In this role, he ensured cost effective operations and punctuality at more than 150 airports in over 30 countries, created a training organization for 600 new Boeing pilots, built employee representative council structures in 19 countries, opened 61 new overseas bases, and introduced new technologies to reduce costs across the airline.

Peter was also previously Head of Sales and Marketing at Ryanair where he played a pivotal role in introducing new customer service initiatives, pan-European TV advertising, and positive press relations contributing to record sales. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Director Flight Operations.

Before joining Ryanair, his roles included Founder and Chief Executive of vbnets.com, an online travel agency in Ireland, Managing Director of Kerry Airport, and Managing Director of Drive Ireland.

Peter attended Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. His hobbies include long distance running, coaching Irish Gaelic football, rugby, and guitar. He intends to move to Malaysia with his wife and his four children.
