Icelandair Takes Off With Newest Fleet Addition, the Boeing 767

Quincy, MA, May 3, 2016 – Icelandair this week entered into service the first of two Boeing 767s, with the second scheduled to begin departures on May 15, 2016. With a capacity of 262 passengers, the newest members of Icelandair’s fleet allows for an increase of up to 44% in available seats on select routes.

The new wide-body jets have undergone complete refurbishing since being acquired by Icelandair last winter, including new seats, personal in-flight entertainment systems, interior mood lighting, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi, and more. The new 767 aircraft will provide flights from New York-JFK, Boston and Chicago-ORD to popular destinations including London, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

Icelandair’s fleet has expanded to 28 aircrafts in recent years – 26 Boeing 757s and 2 Boeing 767s – in line with their high growth rate. Since 2009, the Icelandair route network has nearly tripled in size, with a capacity increase from 1.3 million to approximately 3.7 million. At the height of the summer season, Icelandair takes off with more than 100 daily departures throughout North America, Europe, and Iceland.
