Wizz Air Announces 26th Base In Chisinau

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced it will begin base operations at Chisinau International Airport with one A320 aircraft and add two new routes to Europe from March 2017. Wizz Air will launch new twice-weekly services from Chisinau to Berlin Schönefeld and Barcelona. With these new destinations, Wizz Air’s network from Moldova consists of seven routes to four countries. Fares start at EUR 29.99*.

WIZZ started operating low fare flights from Chisinau in September 2013 gradually growing the low-fare network from Moldova and providing more opportunities for affordable air travel. With over 350,000 seats on sale in 2017, representing a 41% increase year on year, Chisinau is becoming Wizz Air’s 26th base and Moldova is becoming the 14th country where WIZZ has base operations.

The new base in Chisinau represents an investment by Wizz Air of $98 million*** and the company will hire 36 people to be based in Chisinau as crewmembers for the new aircraft. The recruitment of local crew has already started and the airline is organizing open days for all those interested in the sky-high career at WIZZ. The Open Days for WIZZ cabin crew recruitment will be held on 25 and 26 October 2016 from 9:00 AM at Hotel Jumbo (Bulevardul Decebal 23/3, Chișinau 2002, Moldova), while Pilot Open Day is scheduled for 29 October from 9:00 AM at same location. All applicants are kindly requested to arrive sharply on time and bring an updated English CV, 2 photos (face and full body) and any relevant references. More details on the Cabin Crew profession and opportunities can be found at the WZZ Cabin crew page

The new base will also contribute to the local economy, supporting indirect jobs in airport operations, transportation, hospitality, and tourism industries. Throughout Moldova, Wizz Air’s operations this year will support more than 100 jobs* in associated industries.

Speaking at a press conference in Chisinau today, George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air said: “Wizz Air has been present in Moldova for over three years and today I am thrilled to announce the basing of our first aircraft in Chisinau from March 2017. Our investment will contribute to the local economy as well as create a number of local jobs both with Wizz Air and our local business partners while allowing us to bring more low fare routes to Moldova. We look forward to welcoming our Chisinau passengers on board, as well as visitors to Moldova that can now enjoy our outstanding professional services and low fares on seven routes to four countries.”
