Iberia’s tenth A330-200 has joined the fleet, registered as EC-MNL and christened ‘Tokio’, in honour of the Japanese capital, one of the Spanish airline’s new destination, launched on 18 October with three return flights each week.

The ‘Tokio’, with 19 seats in Business Class and 269 in Economy, is equipped with Iberia’s newly-designed long-haul cabins, featuring the latest in comfort and technology. Business Class seats all have direct access to the aisle and unfold into 2m-long beds. The lavish entertainment offering is delivered through 15.4-inch touch screens. Economy passengers get 9-inch screens and extra comfortable seats that are 46 cm wide and boast a fully-adjustable headrest.

For all passengers the entertainment programme includes 60 films in several languages, 100 television series and documentaries, 200 musical options, 16 video games, and a special channel for children. Also available to all passengers is Wi-Fi service over the KU band for fast download speeds.

The ‘Tokio’ is part of a 29 long-haul aircraft order to be delivered by 2020. The A330-200s ordered are twin-engine aircraft of the MTOW 242Tn model, more fuel-efficient, with a range of 11,500 km and a maximum take-off weight of 242 tonnes. They are used on Iberia’s new Madrid–Shanghai and Madrid-Tokyo, both of them launched in 2016, and also for flights to long-haul destinations such as Montevideo, Santo Domingo, San Juan (Puerto Rico), Havana, Rio de Janeiro, Medellin, Panama City, Boston or Miami.
