Wizz Air Celebrates First Gdansk Flight Operated With Its State-Of-The-Art Airbus A321 Aircraft

Wizz Air, today operates its first commercial flight from Gdansk with one of its brand new, state-of-the-art Airbus A321 aircraft, which is, with 230 seats on board, the most efficient single-aisle passenger aircraft.

The aircraft’s superior operating economics mean that WIZZ offers more seats to more destinations at WIZZ’s lowest fares at the same time as delivering the lowest emissions and noise footprint in its class. In addition to the refreshed livery, Wizz Air’s A321 aircraft feature new interior colors, a lighter cabin ambiance, soft leather seats and more cabin seating choices.

The first Airbus A321 joined the WIZZ fleet in November 2015 and today the airline already has 17 of this aircraft type in its ever growing, young fleet. Underlining its commitment to Gdansk, in May WIZZ will deploy another Airbus A321 at its base at Lech Walesa Airport creating even more capacity on its most popular services. The Gdansk-based A321 aircraft will initially fly the London Luton, Hamburg, Stockholm Skavsta and Gothenburg routes.

WIZZ will take 30 of the current version A321 aircraft through 2018 and then begin accepting delivery of the A321neo, featuring advanced engine technology, in 2019. The continued investment in new technology reflects Wizz Air’s commitment to become the most efficient airline in Europe and this, in turn, will help ensure that Wizz Air remains Central and Eastern Europe’s largest low-cost airline.

Since the first flight in 2004, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its Gdansk network, which now consists of 30 routes to 13 countries. WIZZ has now five aircraft and 200 customer-oriented crew based at Lech Walesa Airport. In 2016 the airline carried over 1.96 million Gdansk passengers on its low-fare routes, supporting nearly 1500 local jobs.

With its new Gdansk based A321 aircraft, Wizz Air now has 22 aircraft and over 800 employees based in Poland, offering 151 routes from its eight Polish airports.

Gabor Vasarhelyi, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate the first commercial flight of our first Gdansk based Airbus A321 aircraft, the most efficient single-aisle passenger aircraft in the sky. The addition of this state-of-the-art model to our Gdansk fleet allows us to allocate more capacity on the most popular WIZZ routes, while offering the lowest possible fares. We stay committed to our Gdansk customers and their visitors and keep on bringing opportunities through affordable travel to Pomerania. Our friendly Polish crew looks forward to welcoming you on board our state-of-the-art Airbus A321 aircraft!”
