Air India – following its successful migration to a single code on 27 February 2011 – is all set to join Star Alliance. The company has already complied with the Minimum Joining Requirements (MJR), which were mandatory for joining the Alliance.

Air India’s entry into Star Alliance, the leading global airline alliance of 27 top carriers, will give its passengers access to a network of 21000 daily flights to 1160 airports in 181 destinations. Air India’s membership to the Star Alliance will also entail its passengers to enjoy enormous benefits, including seamless transfers while traveling across the world, more frequent flyer mileage points, code sharing leading to a wider choice of flights and access to lounge facilities worldwide.

The new Passenger Service System of Air India will also enable passengers to redeem their accrued mileage points on other Star Alliance carriers and vice versa. Adria Airways, Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Blue1, bmi, Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAM Airlines, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, United and US Airways are member of the Star Alliance.

“These developments are seen as a major morale booster by the employees and the company is looking forward to host the joining ceremony by July 2011,” the spokesperson added.
