Air Namibia secures government funding into 2021

In the government’s 2018/19 budget, Air Namibia, the national carrier, will be the recipient of financial assistance from the national treasury, as the state budget includes a N$740 million subsidy for the airline in 2018/19. A further assistance of N$676 million will be budgeted for in 2019/20, while N$698 million is projected to be allocated in 2020/21.

Budget figures released by the Namibian government yesterday indicate that government spending is projected to reach N$65.7 billion in the fiscal 2019/20, about 32.7% of GDP, and for 2020/21, spending is projected to reach N$66.3 billion, 30.2% of GDP.

Air Namibia is currently struggling with financial problems, including US$21.4 million owed to Namibia Airports Company.
