Archer to Acquire Boeing’s Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid

Archer Aviation agreed to acquire Boeing subsidiaries Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid, creating a broader aerospace and defense platform spanning autonomous flight, eVTOL aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems and airspace management technology. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

The acquisition will add Insitu’s established defense business, which generates more than $200 million in annual revenue and supports operations across 35 countries. Insitu has manufactured and fielded more than 3,500 unmanned aircraft systems, while Wisk brings autonomous flight technology developed through six generations of eVTOL aircraft and more than 1,700 flight tests. SkyGrid adds aircraft-agnostic automated airspace management technology.

Archer plans to integrate the companies’ autonomy and airspace technologies with its ZEE AI platform, creating an end-to-end platform serving commercial aerospace, defense and air traffic management applications.

Boeing will invest in Archer and become a strategic partner under a collaboration and technology-sharing agreement. Boeing will retain access to Wisk’s core autonomous flight technology for use in current and future commercial and defense aircraft while maintaining exposure to the businesses through its stake in Archer.
