Brussels Airlines Freezes Long-Haul Fleet Expansion Amid Profitability and Market Challenges

Brussels Airlines will suspend plans to expand its long-haul fleet in 2027, citing weaker-than-expected profitability, repeated strikes in Belgium and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.

Following discussions with Lufthansa Group, the airline has decided not to add the two Airbus A330 aircraft previously planned for delivery in 2027. As a result, Brussels Airlines’ long-haul fleet will remain at 11 Airbus A330 aircraft.

The airline also confirmed it will not rely on wet-leased capacity during the 2027 summer season. The four airBaltic aircraft currently operating for Brussels Airlines under a wet-lease agreement through the end of October 2026 will not return for Summer 2027.

Despite the fleet adjustments, Brussels Airlines will continue investing in its onboard product. The airline remains on schedule to introduce new cabins across its Airbus A330 fleet, with upgraded Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy cabins expected to enter service during 2027.
