Discover Airlines Retires Last Airbus A330-200, Transitions to All-A330-300 Long-Haul Fleet

Discover Airlines has retired its final Airbus A330-200, completing the phaseout of the aircraft type and leaving the Lufthansa Group leisure carrier with a long-haul fleet of 15 A330-300s.

The final aircraft, registered D-AXGE, completed its last scheduled passenger service on October 28, 2026, arriving at Frankfurt from Philadelphia as flight 4Y051 at 06:30 local time.

Discover Airlines operated three A330-200s, registered D-AXGB, D-AXGE and D-AXGF, which formed the airline’s initial fleet following its establishment in 2020. D-AXGE operated the carrier’s inaugural flight on July 24, 2021.

The retirement of the approximately 22-year-old aircraft is part of Lufthansa Group’s fleet modernization strategy, reducing operational complexity and standardizing Discover Airlines’ long-haul operations around the A330-300.

The airline plans to introduce Airbus A350 aircraft beginning in summer 2027. By mid-2028, its intercontinental fleet is expected to grow to 20 aircraft, including four A350s.

All three retired A330-200s will be returned to their owner at Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées Airport in France, where decisions regarding their future deployment will be made.

The aircraft retained their original Eurowings Discover livery until retirement, as repainting was not considered economically justified given their remaining time in service.
