Edelweiss Appoints Edi Wolfensberger as CEO

Edelweiss has appointed Edi Wolfensberger as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2026, succeeding Bernd Bauer, who will step down after 12 years leading the Swiss leisure airline.

Wolfensberger joins from Eurowings, where he has served as Chief Operating Officer since 2022. He previously held senior leadership positions at Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland, and began his aviation career at SWISS in 2008.

Bauer leaves Edelweiss after overseeing a period of significant growth that saw the airline expand from around 500 to nearly 1,700 employees, increase its route network from approximately 40 to more than 100 destinations, and triple passenger traffic. During his tenure, the carrier modernized its fleet with the introduction of the Airbus A340 and, most recently, the Airbus A350 alongside a new cabin product.

Lufthansa Group said Wolfensberger’s appointment ensures leadership continuity as Edelweiss enters its next phase of development. The group also credited Bauer with strengthening the airline’s position as Switzerland’s leading premium leisure carrier and successfully guiding the business through the COVID-19 pandemic while laying the foundation for continued growth.
