IndiGo Signs MoU for Record Order of More Than 1,000 CFM LEAP-1A Engines

IndiGo has signed a memorandum of understanding with CFM International covering more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, marking the largest single order for LEAP engines in CFM’s history.

The agreement also includes long-term support for IndiGo’s expanding fleet, including material services, spare engine support and assistance in establishing the airline’s planned engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in India. The initiative is intended to improve dispatch reliability while supporting the carrier’s rapid fleet growth.

IndiGo has operated CFM-powered aircraft since 2016 and currently flies more than 375 Airbus A320neo family aircraft equipped with LEAP-1A engines. The airline said the latest agreement supports its strategy of becoming a global carrier while maintaining operational efficiency and sustainability.

India is CFM’s third-largest market, with five airlines operating more than 400 LEAP-powered aircraft and approximately 2,000 engines on order. CFM has delivered more than 10,000 LEAP engines worldwide and continues to invest in manufacturing and maintenance capabilities in India, including Safran’s LEAP engine MRO facility, which is expected to handle up to 300 shop visits annually at full capacity.
