Lufthansa Group Orders 20 737 MAX 10s for Early 2030s Delivery

Lufthansa Group has exercised purchase options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, increasing its firm commitments for the 737 MAX family to 60 aircraft.

The new order follows Lufthansa’s 2023 agreement for 40 737 MAX 8s, which included options covering another 60 aircraft. The latest transaction represents the first 20 of those options to be converted into firm orders.

Deliveries of the 737 MAX 10s are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s. Lufthansa plans to use the higher-capacity narrowbodies to progressively replace older Airbus A320 Family aircraft within the group.

The MAX 10 will complement the 40 MAX 8s already on order and provide additional seating capacity for European short- and medium-haul operations. Lufthansa estimates the MAX 10 will consume approximately 30% less fuel than the older aircraft it replaces while reducing unit costs by around 20%.

The 20-aircraft order has a list-price value of approximately $3.4 billion.

Lufthansa Group expects to receive more than 250 new aircraft across its fleet through 2035 as it replaces older equipment and expands capacity.
