MSC Air Cargo Orders Five Boeing 777-8 Freighters

MSC Air Cargo has ordered five Boeing 777-8 Freighters, becoming the latest operator to select Boeing’s next-generation widebody cargo aircraft as it expands its global freight network.

The order, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, is the cargo carrier’s first commitment for the 777-8 Freighter and will complement its existing fleet of Boeing 777 Freighters. Boeing said the aircraft combines technologies developed for the 777X program with features of the current-generation 777 Freighter to deliver greater payload capability, lower fuel consumption and reduced operating costs.

The 777-8 Freighter is designed to provide the highest payload capacity and lowest fuel burn per tonne among large twin-engine freighters, supporting growing demand for long-haul cargo operations driven by global trade and e-commerce.

The agreement brings Boeing’s total orders for the 777-8 Freighter to more than 80 aircraft, with MSC Air Cargo becoming the third Europe-based cargo airline to commit to the type.
