NOEMI Receives €3 Million Grant for Electric Amphibious Aircraft Flight Testing

Norwegian startup NOEMI Aerospace has secured €3 million from Innovation Norway to support the flight test program for its electric amphibious aircraft, advancing development of what the company aims to certify as the world’s first electric amphibious passenger aircraft.

The funding will support ground, water and flight testing of the prototype, which is currently under construction at Torp Sandefjord Airport. NOEMI expects to roll out the aircraft within the next 12 months and complete its first flight by the end of 2027.

Designed to operate from both runways and waterways, the aircraft is intended for regional passenger services as well as cargo, medevac, search and rescue, firefighting and other special missions.

Eric Lithun, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NOEMI Aerospace, said: “Not only are we building a new aircraft, we are developing a new Norwegian industry. The flight test programme is one of the most important phases of the project and where we will demonstrate the technology at full scale. Innovation Norway’s support validates the progress we have made, reduces project risk and reinforces to investors and industry partners that this technology has significant international potential.”

Innovation Norway said the grant is the largest awarded to a single project so far this year and is intended to help attract additional private investment as NOEMI progresses toward aircraft certification and commercial entry into service.
