Rolls-Royce to Power Philippine Airlines' Additional A350-1000 Fleet

Rolls-Royce has signed a memorandum of understanding with Philippine Airlines (PAL) to supply 18 Trent XWB-97 engines for the carrier’s order of nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

The agreement also includes engine provisions for up to five additional aircraft covered by PAL’s purchase rights, providing flexibility for future fleet expansion. Rolls-Royce and the airline also signed a proposal for the manufacturer’s TotalCare maintenance program, which will provide long-term engine health monitoring and maintenance support.

The latest agreement follows PAL’s 2023 order for nine A350-1000s powered by Trent XWB-97 engines, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to the type for its long-haul network. The Trent XWB-97 is the exclusive powerplant for the A350-1000 and has accumulated more than four million flight hours since entering service.

The engine is certified to operate on a 50% sustainable aviation fuel blend today and has been validated for compatibility with 100% sustainable aviation fuel in the future. Rolls-Royce said ongoing durability upgrades are expected to further improve engine life and reduce maintenance requirements.
