Russian state-owned conglomerate Rostec is planning to consolidate its civil aviation businesses into a new holding company that would bring together passenger carrier Red Wings, cargo airline SkyGates, the National Air Ambulance Service (NSAA) and aviation leasing company Aviacapital-Service.
The proposed restructuring is intended to streamline the management of Rostec’s aviation transport, leasing and maintenance assets while creating a centralized system for aircraft and helicopter maintenance, aftermarket support and workforce training. Rostec confirmed the consolidation is under discussion, although the final structure and management team have yet to be approved.
Industry sources said the reorganization follows concerns over Red Wings’ recent financial performance, which has been affected by changes to its Boeing 777 charter operations and broader operational challenges. The airline said the reduction in financial results reflects adjustments to its charter program aimed at extending the service life of its Boeing 777 fleet until new aircraft begin arriving next year.
While the restructuring is not expected to result in major operational changes for the airlines involved, industry observers believe a unified holding structure could improve coordination, fleet management and oversight across Rostec’s aviation businesses.
