SMBC Aviation Capital Places Two Airbus A321XLRs with Air Seychelles

Air Seychelles has signed a lease agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for two Airbus A321XLR aircraft, marking a key step in the airline’s long-haul expansion strategy and fleet modernization plans. The aircraft will come from SMBC Aviation Capital’s Airbus order book, with deliveries scheduled for 2028.

The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, will introduce the extended-range narrowbody aircraft to the carrier’s fleet, enabling Air Seychelles to launch new long-haul routes beyond its traditional regional network. The A321XLR’s increased range and improved fuel efficiency are expected to support direct services to high-potential tourism and business markets while lowering operating costs.

The aircraft will provide greater network flexibility, enhance passenger comfort and strengthen Seychelles’ international connectivity, supporting the country’s tourism-driven economy. Air Seychelles said the acquisition aligns with its strategy of delivering sustainable growth and creating long-term value through a more modern and efficient fleet.

The lease agreement comes as Air Seychelles prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027 and forms part of the airline’s long-term vision for expanding its global network and reinforcing its role as the national carrier.
