Tecnam Supports Italy's Regional Air Mobility Initiative, Plans New Airline

Tecnam has outlined plans to launch a new regional airline through its independent spin-off company, Altair, as part of Italy’s Regional Air Mobility (RAM) initiative aimed at expanding short-haul air connectivity across the country.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of the new RAM terminal at Rome Urbe Airport, where Tecnam showcased its P2012 Traveller commuter aircraft and P2012 VIP variant. The RAM program, led by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and ENAC Servizi, seeks to develop an integrated network of regional airports connected by short-haul air services.

Altair, currently a maintenance and aviation services company within the Tecnam Group, plans to operate the nine-seat P2012 Traveller, subject to regulatory approvals. Tecnam said the aircraft was specifically designed for regional transport and is already in service with operators in Europe, North America, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

The company also highlighted ongoing infrastructure investments at Capua Airport, including a new 1,400-meter runway, terminal, hangars and aircraft parking areas, which are expected to establish the airport as a key hub for regional aviation and general aviation in southern Italy.

Paolo Pascale, CEO of Tecnam, said: “Altair is an independent spin-off of Tecnam that primarily provides comprehensive maintenance and aviation services. Among its future objectives is the launch of a regional airline. It currently operates a helicopter and, regulations permitting, will soon operate with our P2012 Traveller aircraft.”
