Vietnam Airlines to Lease 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft

Vietnam Airlines has announced plans to lease 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from three global aircraft lessors, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.

The agreements include 10 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital, four from Avolon and five from Phoenix Aviation Capital, managed by AIP Capital. The leases will supplement the carrier’s existing order book and support long-term fleet expansion amid continued aircraft supply constraints.

Once delivered, Vietnam Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX fleet will total 69 aircraft, comprising 50 firm orders and 19 leased aircraft. The airline said the fleet expansion will support network growth, improve operating efficiency and help meet increasing demand across domestic and regional international markets.

The 737 MAX 8 offers approximately 20% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions than previous-generation aircraft, supporting Vietnam Airlines’ fleet modernization and sustainability objectives while strengthening its position in the Asia-Pacific market.
