Virgin Australia has secured a sustainability-linked loan to finance nine Boeing 737-8 aircraft in its existing delivery pipeline, with four of the aircraft already delivered.
The financing is tied to the airline achieving agreed sustainability performance targets related to carbon emissions reductions, aligning fleet investment with its broader environmental objectives. The Boeing 737-8 offers approximately 20% lower fuel consumption than the airline’s Boeing 737-800NG fleet, supporting lower emissions intensity and improved operating efficiency.
Virgin Australia said the fleet renewal programme will enhance reliability and passenger comfort while serving as one of the airline’s most significant decarbonisation initiatives.
The transaction was arranged with Crédit Agricole CIB and BNP Paribas, which supported the sustainability-linked financing agreement.
