Jóhanna á Bergi is Atlantic Airways new CEO

The Board of Atlantic Airways, the Faroese national carrier, has appointed Jóhanna á Bergi as its new Chief Executive. Currently CEO of Faroe Ship, she will take up her new position no later than September 1.

Jóhanna á Bergi, 44, has extensive leadership and board experience. For the past nine years she has been CEO ofthe shipping company, Faroe Ship. She has a degree in leadership from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and has also studied sales and marketing at Den Danske Eksportskole.

Her appointment comes at the end of a systematic selection process, in which all 45 applications were considered.

Formerly she was sales manager at JFK, which is both a ship-owner and runs fish processing plants, producing and exporting fish products from the Faroe Islands. She has also been sales manager for the fish exporter, Faroe Seafood, in France. In addition to her leadership positions, she has held diverse board positions over the past severalyears.

“In Jóhanna á Bergi we have found the right CEO to carryforward Atlantic Airways’ new strategy, which the board – together with Interim CEO Jørgen Holme and our staff – have initiated and developed since Mr Holme’s appointment 18 months ago,” said Niels Mortensen, Chair of the Board.

“Jóhanna á Bergi has strong leadership experience, and she has the right mix of qualifications in sales, marketing and finance.”

Jørgen Holme became interim CEO of Atlantic Airways in November 2013 for a transitional period of a maximum two years. He will continue as CEO until Jóhanna á Bergi takes up her new position on September 1, at the latest.

She said: “To me it is a great joy to be able to serve the Faroese people and society as CEO for our national airline carrier. Atlantic Airways plays a pivotal role in the daily life of us all and I will make every effort to further develop the carrier to the benefit of us all.”

Jóhanna á Bergi will be Atlantic Airways’ fourth CEO since the carrier was founded on November 10, 1987.
