The Association of European Airlines (AEA) urges European policy-makers to realise the need of a coherent aviation policy, which addresses the issues and is adapted to today’s market. European airlines need a seamless, environmentally sustainable, safe and cost-efficient aviation market.
The Flight and Duty Time Limitations (FTL) as proposed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) serves as a key building block of this aviation policy. A common set of safety rules will benefit consumers and ensure that all airlines in the common aviation market follow the same rules while ensuring the highest safety standards.
“The lack of harmonised FTL rules would mean that the current fragmented legislative framework would continue to apply. The new FTL rules would ensure that Europe will continue to have one of the strictest rules in the world, even stricter than today” said Mr Athar Husain Khan, acting Secretary General of the AEA. “We therefore once again call on Members of the European Parliament to adopt EASA’s balanced proposal at the Transport and Tourism Committee meeting on Monday”.
