AEI Receives MD80SF FAA STC

MIAMI, FL., -February 12, 2013- Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is pleased to announce that it has received the world’s first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the MD80SF Passenger to Freighter Conversion. The STC, ST02434LA includes the conversion of the MD81, MD82, MD83 & MD88 models of which there were 779 passenger units manufactured. The prototype aircraft is an MD82SF MSN 49470 built in 1987, modification touch labor was performed by AEI’s Authorized Conversion Cen- ter, Commercial Jet, Inc., located in Miami Florida.

Mr. Robert T. Convey, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, stated that “AEI once again demonstrates its leadership position in the conversion industry by bringing the first MD80SF to market. ” He goes on to say that, “ AEI currently has a backlog of 20 units and is forecasting 100+ MD80SF 12 Pallet Configuration Conversions over the next 10 years.”

AEI’s MD80SF 12 Pallet Configuration freighter will provide operators with industry leading performance including;
 12 position 88”x108” CLS, standard
 8 position 125”x88” CLS longitudinally oriented, optional
 8 position 125”x96” CLS longitudinally oriented, optional
 4,500 lb average position weights for the 88”x108” configuration
 46,600 lb of main deck payload
 4,416 cubic feet of main deck payload
 85”x136” Main Deck Cargo Door opening
 9G rigid cargo barrier with sliding door, Ventura Aerospace
 Low Profile 1.25” Ancra Cargo Loading System
 Main Deck converted to Class E cargo compartment
 Independent 28 VDC hydraulic system
 Up to 5 supernumerary seats

AEI is a Boeing Licensed 3rd Party STC Provider for the MD80SF.
