The Air France-KLM Group will be kicking off the new year by flying with navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems. Both companies recently signed a five-year contract for the fleets of Air France, KLM and KLM Cityhopper.
The chart solution Lido/RouteManual and its complement Lido/eRouteManual for Electronic Flight Bags provide the airlines with navigation charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and route charts. Generated directly from the Lido navigation database, the charts contain all important route information including altitude and airport data. They display true-to-scale geographic information such as terrain features and rivers. Lido/RouteManual’s close link to the flight planning tool Lido/Flight generates additional benefits for the briefing process.
“By adopting the high-quality navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems, we can provide our pilots with optimum charting material," said Eme Tillema, Deputy Vice President Air Traffic Management at KLM. “The electronic charts of Lido/eRouteManual and Lido/iRouteManual also put us for the future in the position to provide our pilots with more information.”
“Thanks to the navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems, we can begin a paperless process in Air France, with a fuel saving objective,” said Jacques Verriere Vice President Technical Development at Air France. “This step contributes as a key element into the overall project launched by Air France to improve Flight Safety”. The possibility to use the Lido/iRouteManual for iPads also influences Air France-KLM’s choice for Lufthansa Systems. These apps could offer pilots an opportunity to access professional navigation charts for instrument flights (IFR charts) on iPad.
“We are delighted to count Air France, KLM and KLM Cityhopper among the customers of our cockpit solutions. Our paper-based and electronic navigation charts give the airline’s pilots access to all important information on all required routes and airports in a clear and easily legible layout, enabling them to make a smooth transition to the paperless cockpit in the near future,” said Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Regional Management Europe, Middle East & Africa at Lufthansa Systems. The identical layout of the charts on either media – paper, EFB and iPad – combined with intuitive user interfaces yields highest flexibility in the introduction of electronic media in the cockpit.
Based in Paris, Air France-KLM Group SA is a listed airline that was established in 2004 through a merger between Air France and KLM.
