Air Namibia increases fleet

Air Namibia has recently acquired three Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft and anticipates the first delivery on February 14th, the second on April 14th and final delivery on June 3rd of 2011.

The airline having upgraded its fleet, plans to substitute the newly acquired Embraer ERJ135 instead of the current Beechcraft model.

As of February 14th, the Embraer ERJ 135 will be deployed on Air Namibia’s regional routes between Windhoek, Maun and Victoria Falls and all domestic routes within Namibia. The new aircraft allows increased seating capacity and will carry a maximum of 37, as opposed to the former maximum of 19, thus allowing the airline to better meet passenger demand. The equipment change and increased capacity have already been reflected in the CRS systems.

Air Namibia is confident that the upgraded fleet will enhance its domestic and regional product and improve the travel experience of its customers who will immediately benefit from an increased luggage allowance. Passengers will now be entitled to a baggage allowance of 20kilos in economy and 30kilos in Business Class. This is consistent with that of the Air Namibia long haul flight.

The final aircraft delivery is anticipated June 3rd when Air Namibia will effectively retire the Beechcraft 1900D model. The entire Air Namibia fleet will then consist of nine aircraft, two Airbus A340’s, four Boeing 737’s and 3 Embraer ERJ 135’s.
Air Namibia, founded in 1946, is committed to achieving its long term goal of sustained achievement, fiscal responsibility and most importantly, reliable and efficient customer service. The new additions to the Air Namibia fleet are a pivotal part of this process.

Air Namibia is the national carrier of Namibia and is a niche carrier serving domestic points within Namibia, the immediate regional markets of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia, Ghana and Botswana and the entire Europe, via Frankfurt.

Air Namibia continues to serve the UK market via feeder flights with British Airways and convenient onward connections to Windhoek via Frankfurt. Air Namibia’s strategic departure and arrival times six days per week offer the best connections from the UK and allow passengers a full day upon arrival and departure. Air Namibia maintains a UK office dedicated to serving the UK market which remains a prized and strong market for originating tourists to Namibia.
