Air New Zealand opens new workshops and logistics centre at Christchurch Engine Centre

Pratt Whitney and Air New Zealand today opened new workshops and a logistics centre at the Christchurch Engine Centre to perform V2500® engine maintenance, repair and overhaul work.
The Christchurch Engine Centre, based at Christchurch Airport, is a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and Air New Zealand. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The new 13,500-square-metre space replaces three older buildings on separate sites, reducing the facility’s footprint and cost base, while increasing efficiencies.
The centre’s V2500 engine maintenance shop, established in 2004, employs around 300 staff and overhauls the popular International Aero Engines V2500 engine for Air New Zealand and various other airline customers.
Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon was present for the opening in Christchurch and says it is an exciting step forward in the airline’s joint venture with Pratt & Whitney.
“Pratt & Whitney is a fantastic partner and this new world class facility will enable us to continue to grow V2500 engine overhauls here in New Zealand, playing a key role in supporting our airline and others in the region,” Mr Luxon said.
“This modern, new building will enable us to continue providing excellent service and on-time delivery to our customers for many years to come,” says Brendon McWilliam, Christchurch Engine Centre general manager.
Christchurch City Council supported this development and today Mayor Lianne Dalziel officially opened the new facility at an event for staff and invited guests.
