airberlin: Increased year-to-year capacity utilization

For the first seven months of 2012, airberlin was able to increase its capacity utilization by 1.5% over the corresponding period of the previous year. In the context of the “Shape & Size” efficiency-increasing program, airberlin, Germany’s second-largest airline company, reduced its capacity to 24,430,737 seats, which corresponds to an overall reduction of 7.2 percent as compared to the first seven months of the previous year. Over the same period, airberlin transported 19,140,365 passengers, i.e. 5.4 percent less than in the months from January to July 2011.

In July 2012, airberlin welcomed 3,583,137 passengers on board, i.e. 5.9 percent less than in the same month of the previous year (July 2011: 3,809,401 passengers). At 83.73 percent, capacity utilization remained approximately constant (July 2011: 84.45 percent), due to airberlin reducing capacity by 5.1 percent in monthly comparison. The postponed inauguration of the new airport in Berlin and the burden resulting from the aviation tax prevented an increase in capacity utilization in direct monthly comparison.
