ALTA Appoints Karolina Torres as Director of Member & Industry Relations; Marlene Lorca-Bucksbaum Retires from ALTA

Miami (March 24, 2014) – ALTA, the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association, has appointed Karolina Torres as its new Director of Member & Industry Relations, effective last January. She will report to Mr. Eduardo Iglesias, Executive Director of ALTA.

Ms. Torres will oversee the membership portfolio of the association, strengthening the existing base and acquiring new members. She will also be responsible for promoting closer ties with members and other aviation stakeholders to leverage and influence initiatives that improve safety and cost-efficiency, amongst others, for the benefit of aviation across the Americas.

Eduardo Iglesias stated, “Karolina is a seasoned professional with vast experience in the airline industry, which serves her and ALTA well in her primary role as a relationship builder. We are very glad to have her onboard the ALTA team.”

Karolina most recently was Representative of Sales & Marketing at Global Airtech. Prior to that she was the General Manager of Sonset S.A. in Panama. Earlier she fulfilled various technical and operational roles at GE Commercial Aviation Services and Copa Airlines. Karolina holds a Bachelor´s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT by its spanish acronym), in Panama. She has lived in Costa Rica, Panama and Brazil.

Karolina replaces Marlene Lorca-Bucksbaum, who represented ALTA as Director of Member Relations since 2004. In that role, Ms. Lorca-Bucksbaum made important contributions to ALTA´s growth and evolution as an association that together with its Members, drives an influential agenda to effect improvement in Latin American and Caribbean aviation.
