Miami, July 7, 2011 – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced that its member airlines carried 11.2 million passengers in May, up 6.7% from the previous year.
In addition to passengers increasing 6.7%, traffic (RPK) grew 9.2% and capacity (ASK) increased 0.4%. The load factor jumped to 73.3%, 5.9 percentage points higher than in May 2010.
The number of passengers carried year-to-date (January to May) increased 5.4% versus the same period of the previous year, reaching 57.1 million passengers. During the aforementioned period traffic (RPK) rose 7.2%, capacity (ASK) increased 2.1%, and the passenger load factor reached 75.2%, 3.6 percentage points higher than the previous year.
Freight ton kilometers increased 3.3% in May and 4.9% year to date.
