Altavair Names Matthew Hoesley CEO as Stephen Rimmer Moves to Executive Chairman

Altavair has appointed Matthew Hoesley as chief executive officer and president as part of a planned leadership transition at the aircraft leasing and financing platform, effective January 1, 2027.

Stephen Rimmer, who has led the business since its founding in 2003, will move from CEO to executive chairman. Rimmer co-founded the company as Guggenheim Aviation Partners and subsequently oversaw its transition to Altavair and expansion across Seattle, Dublin, London and Singapore.

Hoesley joined the company in 2005 and has held roles spanning pricing, marketing, originations, portfolio management, financing and investments. He became chief commercial officer in 2024 and was appointed president in 2026.

Altavair has also promoted Head of Investments Dimitrios Kotinis to chief commercial officer. In the new position, Kotinis will oversee the company’s marketing, trading, pricing, risk and capital markets functions.

The succession comes as Altavair prepares to deploy a recently announced $1.4 billion equity commitment from KKR to expand its global portfolio of leased commercial aircraft. Since 2018, KKR-managed vehicles have committed more than $8 billion to aircraft leasing and lending transactions alongside Altavair.

Rimmer will remain involved in the business as executive chairman following the transition, while Hoesley assumes responsibility for Altavair’s day-to-day leadership and continued expansion of its investment and aircraft leasing platform.
