Arja Suominen to be Finnair's SVP Corporate Communications

Arja Suominen, 52, has been appointed Finnair’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Corporate Responsibility and also member of Finnair’s Executive Board and Board of Management, as of 14 March 2011. Suominen joins Finnair from Nokia, where she was most recently Vice President, Global Media Relations.

“Finnair’s operational focus is shifting increasingly to the international market. In addition, we wish to reach our customers and personnel in more diverse ways than before. Suominen will bring a new kind of expertise to our communications, because she has long and solid experience of demanding international corporate communications,” says Finnair’s President & CEO Mika Vehviläinen.

During recent years, Finnair has created a strong position in flight services between Asia and Europe, and its home base Helsinki has become a key hub in Asian traffic.

“Making a company well known and reaching customers in its main markets are important in enabling us to achieve our goal of becoming the most desired option of the quality- and environment-conscious air traveller in the intercontinental traffic of the northern hemisphere,” says Arja Suominen.

“In addition to a growing international focus, Finnair also wishes in future to attend to the needs of its Finnish interest groups. I hope that I can utilise my earlier expertise to the benefit of a renewing, blue-and-white Finnair.”
