Camair-Co starts flight operations with IT from Lufthansa Systems

Lufthansa Systems today announced that Camair-Co, the newly founded national airline of Cameroon, has selected several of its IT solutions for the start of its flight operations. Camair-Co is the first airline in the world to use the NetLine SP planning and control solution from Lufthansa Systems. This solution, which is operated cost-effectively in the Lufthansa Systems data center, enables the carrier to efficiently manage its operations control and crew planning tasks. The airline also deploys the Lido/RouteManual navigation charts, the Lido/FPLS flight planning service, the Lido/TakeOff and Lido/Landing performance modules and the Lido/FMS navigation data. Camair-Co has signed five-year agreements for each of these solutions.

“As a start-up carrier, we need high-quality, cost-efficient IT systems for stable, economic flight operations. This is exactly what the solutions from Lufthansa Systems offer us, and thanks to their fast return on investment, they also promise a high level of investment security and support our planned growth,” said Matthijs Boertien, COO of Camair-Co.

NetLine SP – short for NetLine Service Providing – covers the key operational aspects of an airline such as crew management and operations control. The solution optimizes flight operations with minimal investment costs on the part of airlines. Since Lufthansa Systems operates the system, airlines can reduce their operational expenses by up to 30 percent compared to the cost of running a system themselves. The paper-based Lido/RouteManual navigation charts and the electronic Lido/eRouteManual charts are currently being used by pilots from numerous airlines worldwide. Their clear color-coding and self-explanatory symbols support visual thinking and make it easier for pilots to see all critical information at a glance.

Lido/FPLS (Flight Planning Services) from Lufthansa Systems automatically and economically generates an airline’s operational flight plans and transmits them to the crew promptly before departure. This enables airlines to keep their flight preparation costs down while benefiting from a modern dispatch system and up-to-date information. Lido/TakeOff is a fleet-independent aircraft performance solution which calculates the optimal take-off thrust based on factors such as outside temperature and air pressure. Lido/Landing carries out the same task for the landing process. Finally, the Lido/FMS database contains all important route information, including altitude data and airport information, to optimize flight routes on board modern aircraft. This makes it possible to program the planned route into the on-board flight management system.

“The start of operations for Camair-Co is an important moment for us, too. Our proven products help make flight operations more efficient and thus offer long-term benefits to the airline,” said Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Sales EMEA at Lufthansa Systems.

Camair-Co is the new national airline of Cameroon. From its base in Douala, it will initially serve destinations in Africa and Europe while gradually expanding its route network and its fleet.
