Lufthansa Systems today announced that the Swiss charter airline Edelweiss Air will use its Lido/iRouteManual navigation charts for flight planning on the iPad. This navigation solution optimally displays all of the information required for flight operations and provides cockpit crews with quick access. While the airline will initially use Lido/iRouteManual to supplement its flight preparations with Lido/eRouteManual, the Lido/iRouteManual solution will later be used during flights as well.
Lido/iRouteManual opens the way to a paperless cockpit for airlines. Carriers will be able to remove not only paper charts from the cockpit but all of their paper-based flight operations documentation as well, which increases operational efficiency and saves costs. The suite of applications consists of Lido/iRouteManual and a document viewer as iPad apps as well as a document management system in the form of a web service.
“We want to give our pilots an optimal working environment to ensure smooth flight operations. With Lido/iRouteManual, we can avoid unnecessary chart searches and updates and save time during flight preparations,” said Bruno Speck, Deputy Head of Flight Operations at Edelweiss Air.
The Lido/iRouteManual offers many advantages of Lufthansa Systems‘ highly successful electronic navigation solution Lido/eRouteManual, which has been selected by leading airlines around the world – and Edelweiss Air too. The solution includes charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and seamless worldwide route charts. These charts are generated directly from the Lido navigation database, which contains worldwide aeronautical information and topographical data.
Edelweiss Air was one of the first customers to use the paper-based charts known as Lido/RouteManual. Edelweiss replaced all of these charts two years ago with the electronic Lido/eRouteManual and has flown with nearly paperless cockpits ever since.
“As one of the first new customers for Lido/iRouteManual, Edelweiss is a perfect example of an airline which has consistently used our continually evolving charts,” said Martin Rüschen, SVP Key Account Management Lufthansa Group Airlines at Lufthansa Systems. “Lido/iRouteManual combines the clarity and detail of our route charts with the flexibility of modern mobile devices.”
Edelweiss Air operates a fleet of two Airbus A330 and four Airbus A320 aircraft. The company has been an affiliate of SWISS since 2008 and transports around one million passengers per year.
