Fastjet suspends Kenyan operation following massive blaze

Low-cost African carrier Fastjet (LON:FJET) plans to resume operations as soon as possible after a huge fire broke out today at Kenya’s main international airport.
The firm’s fly540 Kenya operation from the airport in Nairobi is now suspended, it said.
“The company is not aware of any injuries or casualties amongst its passengers or staff,” it said in a statement.
“Once the extent of the damage to the airport facilities is clear the company intends to implement a plan to resume operations as soon as possible.”
Fastjet added that its other operations, including those in Tanzania, are not affected, and indeed “may benefit to some degree from international passengers routing through Dar es Salaam rather than Nairobi”.
The fire began at 5am in the arrivals hall at the airport and sent up plumes of smoke, which could be seen acros the city, while emergency teams battled the blaze.
