Garuda Indonesia selects Messier-Bugatti-Dowty wheels and carbon brakes for ATR 72 commuter fleet

Garuda Indonesia announced today its selection of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (Safran) to supply wheels and carbon brakes for its fleet of 25 ATR 72 regional turboprop aircraft.

Messier-Bugatti-Dowty already supplies wheels and carbon brakes for the majority of Garuda’s fleet (Airbus A320, Boeing 777 and 737).

“Messier-Bugatti-Dowty wheels and carbon brakes have already largely proven their performance and reliability on our current fleet” said Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. “We are delighted to continue this relationship for our fleet of ATR 72 regional turboprops. Another major factor in our decision was the superior support provided by MBD.”

Messier-Bugatti-Dowty introduced its carbon brake for the ATR 72, as forward fit or a retrofit option, in 2005. It has demonstrated very high reliability over the years. Designed to perform more than 3,000 landings between overhauls (50% more than the competing brake), and fitted with a single-rotor heat sink, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty carbon brakes contribute considerably to reduced operating costs for airlines.

According to Messier-Bugatti-Dowty Chairman and CEO Vincent Mascré, “Messier-Bugatti-Dowty carbon brakes combine safety, endurance, reliability and performance. It was the best possible choice for Garuda Indonesia on their ATR 72s, and we are very pleased with their selection.”
