Iberia launches its flights to Fortaleza and Recife

Iberia will launch tomorrow its flights from Madrid to Fortaleza and Recife. The load factor of the Spanish carrier first flight to both Brazilian cities surpasses the 90%-mark. The new route will double the number of Iberia’ destinations in Brazil. The airline expects to carry some 80,000 passengers on the new route in the first year of operation.

Iberia will offer three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, linking the Spanish capital and both cities. The schedule allows good connections to passengers travelling from / to 36 Spanish and other 38 European destinations via Madrid.

The flight will leave Madrid at 12:05 and will arrive at Fortaleza at 16:25. From there it will start at 17:45 to Recife, landing there at 19:15. At 21:15, the flight will leave from Recife, landing at Madrid airport at 09:25 next day.

The route will be operated using 254-seat Airbus A340/300s, equipped with the new Business Plus seating class, recently improved, with seats that turns into totally horizontal beds. An exquisite gastronomic service and on demand inflight entertainment system are other features of Iberia’s Business long haul class.

The flights to Fortaleza and Recife consolidates Brazil’s status as Iberia’s most important Latin American destination, and the one expected to grow the most in 2011. Iberia currently offers two daily return flights between Madrid and Sao Paulo as well as one daily flight to Río de Janeiro. In 2010, the Spanish airline carried 492,000 passengers between Europe and Brazil, nearly 7% more than in the previous year.
