JUNE 2011 TRAFFIC

In June the group’s traffic continued to be affected by the events in Japan, Africa and the Middle East. Elsewhere, it was affected by calendar effects related to the long week ends of Ascension and Pentecost (which occurred in May last year), which weighed on business travel.

Passenger business
Traffic rose by 2.9% for capacity up by 5.0%, leading to a 1.7 point decline in load factor to 82.1%. The group carried 6.7 million passengers (+4.0%). Unit revenue per available seat kilometer (RASK) excluding currency was down on the previous year.

- On the Americas network, traffic was up 6.4% for capacity up 9.9%. The load factor reached 87.1% (down 2.9 points).

- Traffic on the Asia network was stable for capacity up by 5.2%. The load factor declined by 4.3 points to 84.5%. Routes to Japan recovered, with an 81% load factor, but traffic was still 23% lower than the previous year.

- The Africa and Middle East network remains affected by the various geopolitical crises. Elsewhere, the month of June 2010 benefited from the Soccer World Cup in South Africa. Traffic declined by 11.4% with capacity down 6.3%. The load factor lost 4.5 points to 77.3%.

- The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network was highly dynamic, with traffic up by 9.2% for capacity up by 6.6%. The load factor gained 1.8 points to 74.5%.

- The European network was also dynamic, with traffic up by 7.6% for capacity up by 4.4%. The load factor reached the high level of 78.3%, up 2.4 points.

Cargo business
The cargo business remained affected by the troubles in Africa and the Middle East and the impact of the earthquake in Japan. It also faced a situation of overcapacity from Asian destinations. In this context the group continued to control the evolution of its capacity, limiting growth to 1.6%. Traffic was down by 2.8%, while the load factor reached 64.7%, down 2.9 points. Unit revenue per available tonne kilometer (RATK) was down on the previous year.
