Lufthansa Technik and McKinsey launch joint venture company Lumics
Lumics GmbH & Co. KG is a new consultancy firm which has started up
operations in Hamburg, Germany. The company specializes in the
provision of consultancy services for the optimization of complex
production processes and their practical implementation.
The joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and McKinsey & Company
brings together the process experience of the leading provider of
technical services in aviation and the consultancy expertise of the
world’s leading firm of management consultants.
Outside the aviation industry Lumics also sees potential clients in
industries such as chemicals, automobiles, energy and pharma that
feature complex production operations coupled with high safety
demands.
“Lumics offers clients the best possible combination of analytical
and practical knowledge. This is consistent with McKinsey’s
perception of implementation as an indispensable element of
consulting,” said Detlef Kayser, chairman of the Lumics advisory
board and a director at McKinsey in Hamburg.
“For many years Lufthansa Technik has been successful at optimizing
its own processes. With the foundation of Lumics we will be able to
offer competent advice and highly practically oriented support for
process optimization to customers both in the maintenance, repair and
overhaul (MRO) sector and in other industries,” said Dr. Thomas
Stueger, Chief Executive Products, Services & IT at Lufthansa
Technik.
Based at Lufthansa’s Hamburg base, the company commenced operation on
September 2, 2013 with a broad spectrum of competencies. As Dr.
Nicole Roettmer and Dr. Christian Langer, the two managing directors
of Lumics, explain: “What singles out our staff is their experience
in the optimization of production processes – whether in the role of
specialists overseeing such changes or as operative managers who have
played an active part in designing such optimization in their own
area of responsibility.”
The 50:50 joint venture Lumics is the fruit of many years’
collaboration between McKinsey and Lufthansa Technik, which in the
course of almost ten years developed into a partnership relationship
and in mid-2013 led to the foundation of the new company.
