Lufthansa Technik is prepared for Boeing 787 VIP completions
Even before the first Boeing 787 VIP for private and government
customers is delivered at the end of the year, Lufthansa Technik AG
has already finished all its preparations for the completion and
technical care of this state-of-the-art aircraft type. The company is
the leading global provider of exclusive cabin interiors for widebody
aircraft. Currently it is holding talks with several customers of the
twelve Boeing 787 VIPs sold to date. Lufthansa Technik is offering
the necessary capacity for VIP completions of this aircraft type as
of 2014/2015 at its main facility in Hamburg.
“Through our intensive, long-standing cooperation with Boeing, our
participation in all the expert symposia related to the 787 VIP, and
our experience from the 787 support contracts we already have with
five airlines around the world, we are now able to offer all the
engineering, completion and technical services for the 787 VIP at the
highest possible level,” emphasizes Walter Heerdt, Senior Vice
President Marketing & Sales.
Moreover, as the first independent provider to do so, Lufthansa
Technik now offers a production inspection of the Boeing 787 to
airlines and private customers. The first of 50 Boeing 787s to be
supported by an inspection contract was delivered in October.
With the development of a new process for secure cabin installations
in new CFRP aircraft types, the company has also laid the foundation
for customized cabin solutions for its VIP customers. This know-how
is already being applied in two current completion projects involving
Boeing 747-8 aircraft.
Lufthansa Technik has been part of the Boeing 787 since the concept
and design phases of this aircraft program. The company’s engineers
have also contributed decisively to the development of the aircraft’s
maintenance concept, and have more than 20 years of experience with
the use of composite materials in aviation.
Lufthansa Technik’s direct contacts to Dreamliner customers date back
to 2007, and it has meanwhile developed comprehensive component
support, the necessary component pool, and an in-house portfolio of
all technical MRO services for operators of the 787.
The 787 and the 747-8 VIP are new chapters in Lufthansa Technik’s
long history of providing cabin interiors for the newest, most modern
VIP aircraft types: the first Airbus A340 in 1994; the first BBJ in
1999; the first Boeing 777 in 2000; the first Airbus A330-200 in
2008; and the first Boeing 767-400 this year. In Hamburg the company
is currently working on the VIP completion of two Boeing 747-8s, of
which the first will be delivered in mid-2014.
The Boeing 787 VIP will likewise benefit from what has made Lufthansa
Technik the market leader in VIP cabin completions of large
commercial aircraft: decades of experience with the latest VIP cabin
technologies, comprehensive engineering services, a broad spectrum of
in-house manufacturing options, and technical support available
around the world for the entire service life of the aircraft.
