Lufthansa to equip new Airbus fleet with Rockwell Collins' advanced avionics

FARNBOROUGH, England (July 9, 2012) – Lufthansa Airlines has selected a comprehensive package of Rockwell Collins’ advanced avionics, including MultiScan™ Threat Detection System and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), for 49 new Airbus aircraft. Various avionics combinations will be installed across Airbus A320s, A330s and A380s.

Rockwell Collins’ GLU-925 MMR was selected for all of Lufthansa’s new Airbus aircraft. It will enable precision landings using either Global Navigation Satellite Systems or Instrument Landing systems. The GLU-925 is the primary navigation sensor for all phases of flight, and meets the stringent Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirement of RNP 0.1.

Rockwell Collins’ latest version of its MultiScan Threat Detection System was selected for the A330 fleet and provides growth to many new market-first capabilities that enable the prediction and display of hail and lightning potential, thunderstorm-related clear-air turbulence potential, and different levels of turbulence.

Lufthansa’s new A320 family fleet makes up the majority of aircraft (39) receiving Rockwell Collins’ avionics, including TTR-2100 which is a traffic computer-capable Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) that offers technology that can adapt to Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast In (ADS-B In) air traffic management requirements.

Deliveries of Lufthansa’s new Airbus fleet with Rockwell Collins’ advanced avionics are under way and will continue through 2015.
