Luxair continues to modernise its fleet

With its aim of always providing better links between Luxembourg and the major European cities, and making the whole experience more enjoyable for its passengers, Luxair is living up to its ambitions by placing a firm purchase order for a seventh Bombardier Q400 NextGen. An option has already been taken on an eighth aircraft of the same type.

Bombardier airplanes of the Q400 type have been an integral part of the Luxair fleet for 7 years. The arrival in spring 2014 of a further next generation Q400 will bring the number of aircraft from the Canadian brand within the fleet to seven. “I am pleased to announce the arrival of an additional Q400 NextGen. This turboprop plane has given us outstanding operational flexibility and performance. At the same time, it has enhanced comfort and convenience for passengers”, says Adrien Ney, President and CEO of LuxairGroup.

With a total of 16 planes, the size of the fleet nonetheless remains unchanged as one 49-seater Embraer ERJ 145 will shortly be sold.

This strategic replacement with a 76-seater will enable expansion firstly of capacity on existing routes like Geneva, Copenhagen and Milan, and secondly of the European network with the opening of new connections such as Dublin in the spring of 2014. Boosting capacity will also free up a considerable number of low-priced seats. This new purchase is also consistent with Luxair’s wish to operate one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the market for short and medium-haul flights. The more environmentally friendly Q400 NextGen has many technological advantages that are reflected in terms of comfort, speed and fuel savings.
