SAS Traffic Reports: The SAS Group Traffic figures May 2013

SAS Group’s capacity (ASK) was up by 4.7% and the Group’s traffic (RPK) increased by 1.5%.

• The SAS Group’s load factor decreased by 2.3 p.u. to 73.0%.

SAS Group carried 2.6 million passengers in May, down 2.9%.

Group market trends, RASK and yield development

The traffic continued to develop as expected, but number of passengers was negatively affected by the cabin crew strike in Widerøe in May.

Currency adjusted yield (Scandinavian Airlines) in April 2013 was up 10.3% versus previous year and RASK was up 0.6%. In May 2013 the change in yield and RASK vs. last year is expected to be negative.

Overall, the market develops according to SAS expectations. Despite that yield has been somewhat more stable in recent months, the over capacity on certain routes adds uncertainty and the SAS Group continues to expect a negative trend for the RASK for the full year 2012/13. Throughout the summer, SAS will commence flights on 32 new routes and in total plans to open 50 new routes during calendar year 2013. The capacity increase for the fiscal year 2012/13 is expected to be approximately 5-6%.
