SINGAPORE AIRLINES: APRIL 2013 OPERATING RESULTS

LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2013 – The operating results for April 2013 are given in the table below.

In April 2013, Singapore Airlines recorded 0.8% year-on-year growth in system wide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) while capacity (measured in available seat kilometres) grew by 3.2%. As a result, passenger load factor (PLF) fell 1.9 percentage points to 77.8%. The number of passengers carried increased by 1.1% year-on-year to 1.5 million.

PLF eased across all route regions, except East Asia and Americas. The shift in Easter holidays to March this year (as compared to April last year) contributed to weaker loads. The operating environment remains challenging. Efforts to stimulate demand to boost loads are expected to place continued downward pressure on yields.

SilkAir’s system wide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) increased 3.7% year-on-year against 15.4% growth in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres). PLF was 7.8 percentage points lower at 69.4%, as the increase in traffic lagged behind the rate of capacity expansion.

Overall cargo traffic (measured in freight-ton-kilometres) was 4.5% lower year-on-year, while cargo capacity decreased by 4.8%. Consequently, cargo load factor (CLF) increased by 0.2 percentage points. With strict capacity management, traffic was in line with capacity changes on most route regions.
