LOS ANGELES, September 16, 2013 – The operating results for August 2013 are given in the table below.
In August 2013, Singapore Airlines’ systemwide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) grew 8.6% year-on-year against a 3.1% increase in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres). As a result, passenger load factor (PLF) improved by 4.1 percentage points to 82.4%. The number of passengers carried increased by 11.7% to 1.7 million.
Load factors improved across all regions, bolstered by strong leisure travel demand during the Lebaran/Hari Raya holidays, coupled with returning summer traffic. Traffic to West Asia & Africa also saw improvements with the shift in the Lebaran/Hari Raya period. The operating environment remains challenging, however, and ongoing efforts to stimulate demand to boost loads will continue to place downward pressure on yields.
SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage increased 10.7% year-on-year against 13.4% growth in capacity. As a result, PLF was 1.8 percentage points lower at 71.7%. Load factor for West Asia region declined as the growth in traffic lagged that of capacity increase.
Overall cargo traffic (measured in freight-ton-kilometres) was 5.7% lower year-on-year, while cargo capacity was reduced by 5.0%. Consequently, overall cargo load factor decreased by 0.5 percentage points. Load factors were lower on all route regions, except for Europe and West Asia & Africa, where capacity changes were more closely matched with demand.
